Despite coming from a long line of Belgian fruit growers, Karel Henckens had always dreamed of making wine. But, instead of chasing those dreams in France, he remained on the farm that his grandfather had built in 1929; Henckens replaced the apple trees with grapevines and turned an old barn into a winery.
Nearly twenty years later, Wijndomein Aldeneyck’s success is reflected in a host of awards and a designation of protected EU status.
Aldeneyck owes much of this success to the distinctive terroir.Combined with a uniquely dry microclimate on the banks of the River Maas, well-drained, gravelly soils produce mineral-inflected wines that speak to Henckens’ passion for viticulture.
