Beyond a chateau of doubt…
In the early 2000s, husband and wife Jeanette and Piotr van der Steen had two kids, two dogs, and dreams of making wine.
So, they quit their jobs in accounting and purchased some land outside the town of Dinant in French-speaking Belgium (the oldest records of viticulture in the area date back to 1018).
The Dutch couple harvested their first grapes in 2005.
Nowadays, Château Bon Baron grows a striking list of 14 different grape varieties in four vineyards totaling 17 hectares, making it one of the largest wine estates in Belgium.
Harnessing a microclimate on the banks of the River Meuse, Jeanette and Piotr have helped to revive winemaking in their newfound home.
